Victory Day 2011

To all of you who managed to remember that I'm back open for business today...WELCOME! And Happy Victory Day!!

Well here we are, and another year gone by. And not a whole lot has changed in what was once known as the "Kocisphere," it seems. From a perusal of PC's second blog: Harlow and Joe are still in jail. Harlow is unsuccessfully appealing his sentence, while being successfully appealing to a new pen pal in England. And PC's book has been horribly, horribly delayed (but is now back on track and due out soon).

I guess I'll go ahead and comment on some of that, as well as provide some of my famed "musings" on other matters that have come up this past year as well. And then we'll see which way the reunion discussion drifts from there.

Victory Day 2011: The Blurb Symposium

As some of you may recall from the last comment I made last year, today was supposed to our "Book Symposium." We were supposed to have all read PC's book by today, and perhaps the autobiographical account Brent Corrigan has been promising as well. Well, neither of those books materialized, as yet.

I can't say I'm that surprised Brent hasn't gotten around to writing his. Talented though he is in certain respects, it's perhaps expecting a bit much for a 20-something to discipline his time sufficiently to crank out a serious book. From his most recent blog post mentioning it, he's currently commenced concurrent composition on some sort of new literary frivolity:

"What else?! Well, I’m working on two books at the moment. The second, latest project is a lot easier for me. This book isn’t so introspective or heavy. It’s something that cums naturally to this three time award winner of a particular sexual position . . . a less serious project, something I had not realized I was such an authority on until a new friend came to me on advice on how to become a better bitch, er, I mean, bottom."
And PC's book was delayed by reasons completely outside his control (more on that later). But he has a new publisher now, and they've composed a good-sized blurb:

"Cobra Killer presses the “play ” button to uncover the real world of online pornography--an industry that generates billions in revenue and makes ordinary people overnight-stars and millionaires.

For the first time, authors Conway and Stoner tell in full detail the twisted story of a pair of young, aspiring gay adult film producers whose quest for fame at any cost leads to the gruesome murder of the man who stands in their way, gay porn entrepreneur Brian Kocis. News of the killing of the 44-year-old (stabbed 28 times, his throat slashed to near decapitation of his head) in his suburban home sends shock waves through the bucolic Pennsylvania town. Neighbors are horrified to hear about the murder but equally astonished to learn that Kocis ran a small but thriving online porn operation from his home, sometimes employing underage young men as models.

The murder investigation leads police and prosecutors to the far reaches of the country, from Virginia to New York City, to Las Vegas, and to a nude beach in San Diego where investigators facilitate an incredible clandestine suspect surveillance. The manhunt nets a former U.S. Navy veteran and a former Marine, turned male models, turned hustlers, turned porn producers, who ultimately land at the bottom of a delusional conspiracy. Twenty-six-year-old Harlow Cuadra and his 35-year-old partner and lover Joseph Kerekes are implicated and eventually convicted in the brutal January 2007 murder of Kocis. Their motive? An ill-conceived attempt to lure a rising gay porn star named Brent Corrigan away from the grips of Kocis and into their crumbling, self-built porn empire.

Cobra Killer takes readers into the sometimes alluring, sometimes dangerous and often surprising world of gay porn and the deceit, schemes, and ultimate betrayals lying underneath the fantasy."
And so, instead of a book symposium, we'll have to settle for a blurb symposium this year. So, discuss!

The Regent Media Scandal

I actually knew about PC's book deal with Alyson Books being in jeopardy back in August, when I read this Queerty post about Michael Musto's troubles with the same company. "Oh no, PC's book..." I thought.

Sure enough, on October 1 Alyson went e-book only, and I had a hunch PC would be having none of that. I was right.

So why did Alyson Books, a wholly-owned subsidiary of gay media conglomerate Regent Media (also owners of "Out, The Advocate, here! TV, Gay.com, and a slew of porn properties") collapse into a rinky-dink e-book publisher? Well, THATS an interesting story. The blog Queerty broke the details, which I'll bet you won't find written about in Out or The Advocate.

Basically, Regent Media is a scam. Instead of making money from the legitimate profits from their companies, the owners of Regent subsisted off the proceeds of a fraudulent loans in the amount of $90 million dollars. They apparantly lived the high life in West Hollywood until the funds ran dry. Then they tried to sell assets like Alyson Books; when that failed, they simply allowed them to wither.

What's most interesting to me is the means by which they conned Bank of America and Merrill Lynch out of that $90 million dollars:

"In order to score $90 million in loans from Bank of America and Merrill Lynch, Regent allegedly created fake movie licensing and distribution deals and passed them off to the banks as legitimate contractual relationships that would drive future revenue."
Italics mine.

These fake movie deals were between Regent and some shell companies secretly created and controlled by Regent. And what was it about about these films, that Regent needed to create puppet entities to make fake distribution deals with?

"Defendants knew that these marketing and release strategies and distribution budgets would never be adhered to or executed and that they were inappropriate for the scope of the, more often than not, low-quality straight to DVD film titles, but submitted them to Plaintiffs anyway,..."
Hyperlink mine.

So anyways, we now know the answer to a question that's had us puzzled for a while: How and why a pile of poop like John Roeker's EYWTKAGPS*bwata got made in the first place. Answer: It was all part and parcel of $90 million bank swindle. Here TV needed dreck like that in their inventory, so that they could execute fake deals between shell companies to fraudulently turn it into overinflated collateral.

So there you have it! Yet one more mystery of this murder saga, solved in the due course of time.

Harlow Cuadra's Illegal "Cell" Phone

On December 14, 2010 PC made a brief mention of the passing of Joe Kerekes father, complete with a link to a condolences page. Well, imagine my surprise when I saw this entry in the condolences, posted on the same day and only two hours after PC's blog post:

At first I thought this was some imposter's sick attempt at a joke. I could see prison officials letting Joe get a brief moment of supervised computer access to post an appropriate farewell (which he did), but Harlow? No way in hell. Prisoners obviously don't have unfettered access to surf the web and leave comments (I think some prisons may grant access to closed law-related networks like Lexis for legal research, but that's about the extent of it). General internet access for inmates is a BIG NO-NO, for so many obvious reasons I'm sure I don't need to expound on them.

But then I ran across articles like this. Hoo boy.

And you notice how "joe" above is not capitalized? Exactly the sort of shortcut one tends to makes when typing out a message on a smartphone.

I think we all see what's going on here. Obviously, Pennslyvania prisons officials need to confiscate Harlow's contraband phone immediately. He needs to have his cell raided and every square inch of it gone over with a fine tooth comb; he needs to be frogmarched to the nearest inspection room, stripped, and forcibly cavity searched; whatever it takes until this phone is found.

And once it's found, Harlow should be given the Bradley Manning treatment for at least a month in solitary, as punishment for this flagrant violation.

I realize from that article and others that cell phone smuggling is rampant in prisons nationwide, but you have to start combating the problem somewhere. So, lets start by making an example of Harlow. It's ridiculous IMO that he could be reading this very blog right now, with impunity. So, lets take away the impunity by calling attention to it, shall we? Somebody here must know somebody who knows somebody in the PA Department of Corrections, so lets bring this matter to their attention by forwarding them this link.

The Cult of Harlow

And on the subject of Harlow's fans, well, what can I say except: LOL! It's a shame that blog and those videos are no more, as they were indeed entertaining.

But I did manage to run across this. As you may note, it's a closed Facebook group; no one can get in without permission. So who's in there, and what they are saying???

As my previous musing indicates...Harlow could very well be a participant. If's he's using an illegal cell phone, then there's nothing stopping him for creating a Facebook profile. And this would explain why the group is a closed one.

If that's the case, then they could all be plotting a prison break in there, for all we know. All the more reason, I say, for this illegal phone to be confiscated by prison authorities post haste.

The RyanPaul ... On Trial

Well, this is interesting, to say the least.

And by a curious coincidence, the case was just wrapped up a couple of days ago. It appears Ryan Paul Martinez got a plea-bargained sentence of 4 years and 4 months, as tweeted by Grant Roy, with barely restrained glee:

I gather Grant and Ryan Paul were not exactly chummy.

As a matter of fact, you can pretty much follow the entire criminal case by just scrolling down Grant's Twitter feed for the past 150 days or so. It's kind of a mini version of PC's blog, with each post under 140 characters long.

I guess I have three observations to make:

1) Chris Henriquez. Bryan Kocis. Grant Roy. And now Ryan Paul Martinez. Does anyone else see the pattern here?

Like I said above, Brent is certainly a man of many talents, but I think it's fair to say at this point mate selection does not seem to be one of them. All of the above, in my opinion seem to...well how should I put this? Have a few rough edges?

2) It would appear that I was a bit ungenerous to Michael Lucas when I downplayed the danger he was in (see folks, when I think I'm wrong, I'll fess up to it); and

3) I must say, besides this small Porn Truth site, I'm surprised this story did not get picked up by any of the other reputable gay porn web sites and blogs. You could argue, I suppose, that Brent's boyfriend was a non-porn star, and hence off-limits. But OTOH, he wasn't exactly a "civilian" (in the Godfather Part I sense of the word) either, as evidenced by that incident between he and Lucas at the GAYVNs.

Maybe all the other reputable gay porn sites collectively came to the conclusion that Brent had suffered enough the past few years, and needed to be cut some slack on this one? Who knows. Personally I think it was foolish for Brent to try to sweep the matter under the table on his blog, pretending his "Papi" wasn't behind bars. He would have been better off just being honest with his fans from the get go (which is a lesson Mason Wyler seems to have learned, based on what I've read about him and his latest escapades).

And one question: Will Brent really wait 4 years and 4 months for this guy to get out of the slammer? Or will he move/has he moved on?

Oh well, those are my musings for this year, folks. This blog is now open until Easter, so let the Victory Day reunion comments commence!

HI JIM!!! You got this post up at the stroke of midnight?! Can't wait to read it. I cannot believe it's been a year already. I'll come back tomorrow (later today), just wanted to say hello and be first.

jim said...

Hi Will!

will g said...

Easter?? That's almost six weeks from now! Wow, you must have really missed us, that's so sweet.

jim said...

Eh, yes and no.

I do miss everyone personally from the old days (you, Elm, PC, etc...)

I don't really miss some of the more pointless debates we got into back then.

I do miss the heady days of initial excitement, back in the days right after the murder, when it seemed a bunch of blog commenters on Jason Curious were single-handedly solving a murder case.

I don't miss Kent Barclay and all the time wasted over him.

I do miss the thrill of certain pivitol moments we all experienced...Arrest Day, the day of Joe's non-testamony, the verdict, the sentencing.

I don't miss the monotany between those moments.

All in all, it was a great run. I'm happy to have blogged it, while it was such a live topic. And I'm happy I moved on, now that it's over.

And I'm greatly looking forward to PC's book! Memo to Magnus Books: Hurry up please!

Good Morning Everybody!!
Exciting day! :)
can't wait to read the Post,
Hope everyone is well, and thank you Geoff for the reminder.

Welcome guys!

The financial fraud angle with Regent Media resonates with my wild speculation about Cobra Video as a motive for murder made back in September 2008.

What does it mean when Pierre Fitch becomes your ninth Twitter follower even though you have never contacted him or expressed any interest in him?

jim said...

Well darn it. See above where I lament having wasted so much over DK/KB?

Well...I just ran across something that "inspired" me, to waste more time, completely against my better judgment.

Errrr..I simply can't resist doing this. So, look for one of my infamous post "Updates" in the next hour or so.

Oh, I already hate myself for falling into temptation...

jim said...

OK I changed my mind slightly...it's posted not here but over on my other blog, which of course is a more appropriate venue: http://kenttrial.blogspot.com/

Enjoy folks!

I missed the reunion last year. I had been off to Oregon to take care of my granddaughter for a few months. No reliable internet where they lived. This year I am just sitting around. Easter is a long time off. There really is not much going on in the Kocisshpere. Well two former judges in that area are getting their new living assignments. Whatever shall we talk about?

jim said...

Hi Albert!

Yes the LC judges. All this time investigating them, uncovering a MOUNTAIN of evidence of corruption against them, then finally prosecuting them. So now they're off to jail where they belong. Good riddance.

Only other wrinkle I'd point out is despite those years of investigative work, none of the corruption they did find ever had anything to do with Byran Kocis.

You'd think if there were corrupt dealing between BK and those judges (as some have speculated), the FBI would have dug it up during this massive and extensive investigation these past years, and exposed it in the form of additional charges against said judges.

They did not.

will g said...

Hi VJ!!! And there's my Twitter sparring partner Albert.

Oh, and hello Geoff...

Now I'm heading over to the other blog, see you there Jim. Excellent idea to keep this thread a Luezer-free zone. I'll be back here later with some thoughts on Jim's post.

will g said...

BOO Jim turned moderation on. Is that really necessary?

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Hey Jim glad to hear from you I read most of this post on my mobile so will get back here this evening with a more long winded reply.

Hmm someone needs to hack into Harlows Facebook fan page ;-)

Anyone we know who can pose as a giggly40 something Harlow fangurl who lives with mummy in England?

will g said...

Hey DeWayne, I warned you on Twitter that I had a question for you related to last year's "reunion," and here it is:

You spoke quite a bit in that thread about a documentary on the Kocis case by "a MASTER documentarian," that you and Albert had been interviewed for way back in 2007, and that contained a much more recent and "VERY surprising interview" by somebody whose name you wouldn't mention.

Any update on this? Is it ever going to see the light of day? And can you spill the beans on this mysterious "surprise"? Or just give us a hint...?

Honestly, with PC's book being delayed and this purported documentary still being worked on after FOUR YEARS, you'd think someone else would have jumped into the breach with a complete history of the case now that the culprits have been convicted, but there's been nothing. We've yet to even get a good account of the trial testimony from anyone, except for Quickysrt. But even Quicky wasn't there for Harlow's testimony. That's the real blank space that needs to be filled if we're to really understand why he's behind bars for the rest of his life.

I wonder if Quicky remembered this Victory Day reunion, it's always nice to hear from him.

will g said...

Jim, last year you turned moderation off and we survived with no unwanted intrusions, except for one spam advertisement. Oh, and there was also that little mattter of a DEATH THREAT to DeWayne by Wolbrecht....But aside from those there were no problems!

Turn it off again, pretty please?

jim said...

"Turn it off again, pretty please?"

OK, off!

The only reason I had it on was it was bit easier for me to notice new posts is if they showed up in the queue. But I can deal with it.

will g said...

I appreciate it Jim! Of course if you're there and can post comments quickly, as you just did, then I don't object to it. But this blog is going to be open for SIX WEEKS, and you aren't going to be sitting in front of the computer that whole time, I HOPE, so it's nice to be able to post when you aren't around. We'll behave, I promise.

Geoff Harvard said...

I neglected to say hello to everybody. Hi jim, will, vj, albert, and DeWayne. Good to hear from all of you. Maybe BB will show up so we can abuse him.

DeWayne, who was wearing the horse head mask on Halloween?

I would have to gain at least 60 lbs. to pose as the Harlow fangurl.

jim said...

Was that a mask? I thought it was Michael Lucas.

Geoff Harvard said...

The horsehead mask would approximate the Edomite nose.

VJ said...

Hi Will!!!! :)

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Geoff that was Paul in the horse mask and was supposed to be an ironic statement on his earlier no photographs stance on blogs and social media and maybe his being a "stallion".

And hello,to you and VJ. hmm no Renee or BB yet ;-)

Will,, I guess the statute of limitations on the interview has expired!

Albert and I were interviewed in 2007 by Garth Bardsley http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1663235/ who is a freelance documentarian, producer and director. He was at the time hoping to pitch a Cobra?Bareback in porn project to Here/Regent Media...

LOL Yeah right as you see from his profile he worked for Advocate TV as well.

Garth interviewed Bryan Kocis and Robert Wagner the summer of 2006.
After Bryans murder the focus understandably changed to the Cobra/Kocis?Corrigan online war and then the arrest and trial of Joe and Harlow.

I do understand he has interviewed almost everyone connected to this case and his most recent interview's were conducted post Harlow conviction with people involved in the case.

I am being a little fuzzy cause he asked me not to name specific people he has interviewed post trial, but I think you all can guess.

I have a photo of Albert,Myself,Garth his producer and cameraman when I locate it I will post a link here.

Will this project be released? Yes I think it will at some point we might have to wait till the Regent wreckage is cleared away.

Quicky follows me on Facebook I will link over there this post.

This comment has been removed by the author.
will g said...

Hi Geoff. What a coincidence, your buddy Wolbrecht just made a remark about MY "Edomite" nose. That is odd.

Jim, I thoroughly understand you keeping moderation on on the other blog, but a comment of mine is waiting to be posted.

(Sorry for the deletion, can't stand typos.)

Geoff Harvard said...

Will, I don't keep up with Wolbrecht, since he claims he is not srb412 with whom I corresponded. The reference is to Psalm 136 Septuagent or 135 western. Where is Wolbrecht posting?

will g said...

Hello again you scalliwag VJ, so great to have you here. I'm kind of shocked you remembered the Victory Day reunion, I would have forgotten if Albert hadn't reminded me on Twitter. Are you lurking there by any chance? I'm still following you, you know, I haven't given up faith you'll visit us there again. Babs Barclay misses you too. Your account, in case you've forgotten, is @vjcomcast.

will g said...

Check my comment on the other blog Geoff, when Jim gets around to posting it. He has a new blog and twitter account.

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Well that was bizarre,, I see blogger still has some weirdness in the comment's (which we all remember well)

I just left a long response to Will and Geoff and now its gone and it says "Deleted by Author"

Which was me! Which of course I did no such thing!

LOL now if Grant is reading this he will be saying "Thats because YOUR Jim DeWayne I KNEW IT!"

Okay I will TRY and reconstruct my train of thought later after dinner. I know it was mostly a reply to Will about the "Video Interview"

And Geoff I did say hi to you and VJ and agreed that was Paul in the horse mask, he was supposedly being ironic about being a "stallion"

More after dinner.

And I will past my comment in word first.

See why I love Wordpress! ;-)

Albert said...

Will, one of the key subjects of the interview declined to sign the release form. The subject wanted some assurances the interview team would not make. Without that key subject the project would not work. It was a video crew doing the interview so somewhere it is still in the can.

Grant said...

I'll provide more information later during the relaunch and transformation of BrentCorriganINC.com to RealBoysOnline.com... But an interesting piece of information overheard outside the courtroom between Eric Paul Martinez's (the Ryan came from his former hooker name, I'm pretty sure) court appointed attorney and Paul's parents was that they wanted to file a restraining order against Sean. They did not want Sean to be able to have any contact with him during Paul's stint in prison! We'll see?

jim said...

DeW I just approved one of your posts that was sitting in this newfangled "Spam" folder.

This seems to be a new "feature" on Blogger. Unfortunately it seems to catch some real posts too (an Elm post today on KBOT was considered spam too).

So, I guess what happens now is, if Blogger thinks your post is spam, it has to sit in a spam folder until I deem it "not spam." This is so even with moderation off.

will g said...

I had a comment of mine disappear too DeWayne, fortunately it was short.

That's truly bizarre information from Grant. From what I've heard the LAST person Sean would be trying to contact would be Eric/Paul/Ryan or whatever the hell his name is. The restraining order should be the other way around.

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Jim that makes sense it probably flagged my IMDB url on Garth Bardsley ;-P

jim said...

"Paul's parents ... wanted to file a restraining order against Sean. They did not want Sean to be able to have any contact with him during Paul's stint in prison!"

FWIW...as I see it, Martinez is a grown man (ie, no longer a dependant), and as such I'm not sure how his parents would have standing to do this.

will g said...

Just to make sure that's clear, DeWayne's "lost" comment has now been restored above.

Geoff Harvard said...

Jim, I assume the parents don't want Sean to make a claim against any of Paul's assets to which they would normally be entitled.

VJ said...

Please excuse the interuption,
I can't help but wonder,
poor Nep, knowing that Harlow is [at least] getting banged on a daily basis, thats gotta hurt, [no pun]
and the Reverand, I forget his name, how he must feel?
That it turns the young girl in Britain on, well thats another story.

jim said...

Nep and Harlow could be having phone sex every night for all we know, thanks to that contraband phone.

Geoff Harvard said...

Nep and Harlow phone sex. If Harlow is not being paid, wouldn't he just prefer to take care of himself?

will g said...

Haha you and your "contraband phone" Jim, that's a hoot to think of Harlow with an iPhone in his cell surfing the web. I imagine those contraband phones in prisons are of the cheap, prepaid, untraceable variety, but it's fun to imagine Harlow hiding an iPhone under his pillow.

Pretty sure that comment from "Harlow" on that memorial blog was an imposter. The timing was way too suspicious.

Speaking of that, hope PC joins us sooner or later. I left a comment yesterday on his blog congratulating him on the book, but it hasn't been posted yet.

jim said...

I don't know Will, at first I thought it was a hoax, but then I thought further...

And frankly, I find the timing makes it more likely to be Harlow. What's one of the most likely places he'd be checking out? PC's blog, of course. He'd want to read about himself, narcissist that he is.

will g said...

But correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't PC post about that memorial blog AFTER the Harlow comment? I thought that was kind of the point of PC's post. So I don't think Harlow found out about it there.

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Call 1-900 Hot-Cons perfect for lonely hearts of both sexes. Call your favorite Con at a prearranged time for phone sex, and or sexting pix.

BTW the LA Times reported in February that due to a "legislative oversight" its not actually illegal for prisoners to have a cell phone (in Cali) its only a violation of prison rules.

Charles Manson had been caught with mobile phones twice in 2 years and at most faced 30 days off "good behavior" hmm and he is a Lifer so what does that do?

And yes he was calling and texting young women...

some things never change

jim said...

PC's post shows as going up 7:21 PM. And that "Harlow" comment posted at 9:24 PM. I presume both sites were on EST.

will g said...

Oops I just clicked your hyperlink above Jim, and PC's post about the memorial blog contained no mention of Harlow's comment, my memory of that was faulty. So your theory may be correct, if PC posted HIS comment on the memorial blog concurrently with the link on his own blog. Hmmm, if PC comes by perhaps he can shed some light on this. Harlow THROW THAT iPHONE AWAY BEFORE WE REPORT YOU.

will g said...

Finally got around to reading your "lost" comment DeWayne, thanks for the info. How ironic that this documentary is caught up in the whole Regent mess, I didn't know there was a tie-in to Jim's post when I asked you about it. I wonder if that was one of the projects they fraudulently pitched to BofA to get those loans?

Bardsley is going to have to extricate his film from Regent, just as PC did with his book, if he has any hope of it being released. I think Regent's film division is done for after this lawsuit.

I was thinking today how rapidly the "online experience" has changed since Bryans murder in January 2007.

Four years ago no one had heard of Twitter (which launched in July 2006) Facebook was still smaller than MySpace (FB moved pass MySpace in Apr 2008) and was not nearly as integrated an application as it is today.

Wordpress was not the mature platform of today.

I think when Jim,Elm, PC and I gravitated to Blogger in 2007 it was the best solution at the time.

Today we would be creating Facebook pages to "discuss Joe and Harlow"

And we would be checking in on our iPhones and Androids which did not exist in Jan 2007.

(I had a web-browser on my LG cell then but never used it.)

Another observation..

We did not realize it at the time but I think one reason Bryan Kocis changed his stance on "settling" with Grant and Sean was his own tanking buisness and the DVD model that had made him rich.

in 2010 Chi Chi LaRues C1R released a total of 5 DVD's

The lowest number since the DVD era began in 1998.

Raging Stallion was producing a DVD every two weeks in 2006.

The entire Gay Porn landscape has radically changed since 2006.

And mirrors a similar implosion in Hollywood,TV and Newspapers and Magazines.

will g said...

I was puzzled that PC's book blurb describes Kocis as running an "online porn operation," wasn't it strictly DVD? Were they getting it confused with Joe and Harlow's "online porn operation"?

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Probebly Cobra had a website and a DVD store that was about it. Joe and Harlow's web presence was "very limited and I do not think they had more than 300 subscribers.

But at least they had an "online site" (haphazardly updated)

in my experience not one DVD only Gay Porn studio in existence BEFORE 2005 has made a successful transition to what we would call the "Online unlimited video for one monthly price model" In other words the Sean Cody,Randy Blue,Corbin Fisher site.

Jet Set,C1R,Raging Stallion,Falcon,Hot House,Colt,Titan etc they all offer limited downloads of older material or VOD at higher prices.

Not one of the "DVD studios" has a first class bleeding edge web site either!

I was told last year Randy Blue has more subscribers than any 7 DVD studios combined!

Irony here?

Many Web Studios release DVD's now for the customers who prefer the format, its pure gravy profit for them.

Thanks Will, I wouldn't have missed it.

And yes, I was not able to stay for Harlow taking the stand. I almost pushed everything aside, and was very close. I would have liked to see him get pissed off at prosecution and yell at Melnick.

And Jim, wonderfully writing opening to reunion 2011.

I'm personally looking forward to writing Harlow which will be the cap on the whole ordeal as I saw it, of think I saw it. But I need for Harlow to be in the next phase of his acceptance. While appeals are ongoing, I'm sure he is keeping his hopes up to some large degree however false those hopes are. I want to tell him a few things I saw and thought about there in PA at the trial, and get his take back. But I want that exchange to happen after all appeals have been considered, and completed. Then I can write my take on the story.

But anyway, for here and now, it's nice to see some of you guys back. I didn't follow Sean's boyfriend's legal problems, so I have much reading up to do.

Hello VJ, Cheers Geoff, and Hi DeWayne, nice to see all of you.

----

Yeah, but when I read Harlow's so-called comment, I laughed so hard, I nearly spit out my 7-Up all over my keyboard and near new Samsung monitor.

Harlow could not really expect in his wildest fantasies that he would get to attend any funeral with Joe, now could he. I've commented before that I felt Harlow had the confidence and optimism in the face of adversity like I have never seen. But even that is stretching reality beyond belief.

So someone else must have posted that one. And it was a great laugh in the way Harlow would have thought like that. Someone knows how Harlow thinks.

Oops, I guess this means moderation goes back on. Hi Kentie you idiot. Oh well, fun while it lasted.

There's Quicky! Posting in the dead of night I see, just as I'm doing now. Glad you could join us. Now we're only missing PC, BB, and dare I say it, Rob. Who am I forgetting? (Elm made a very brief appearance on the other blog.)

Two things. First, something that we neglected to mention about this supposed post Harlow made with his contraband iPhone is that the "visitation" he was hoping to get a day pass for took place on September 8. PC didn't post about this until December 14, the date of his and "Harlow's" comments on the memorial blog. Now that does bolster Jim's theory a bit that Harlow only found out about this through PC's blog, but come on, I know he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's not able to comprehend that Joe's father died more than THREE MONTHS prior to his comment? The headline to PC's post is:

Joe's Dad Buys the Farm in September

I still think this was someone's idea of a joke.

(It's strange, but I could swear we had a discussion about all this in the thread to PC's post, but the comment thread there is empty. Another Blogger glitch?)

Second, as far as Harlow's appeals process supposedly being "ongoing," true he has filed an appeal with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, but as I did mention on PC's blog, I highly doubt that court will even look at it. Just as the U.S. Supreme Court hears only a tiny tiny fraction of the cases that are submitted to it, so it is with the PA Supreme Court. From their website:

The Supreme Court receives about 2,500 civil and criminal appeals each year. It has the discretionary power to hear and decide only those cases that it deems to have statewide importance or to require clarification on a point of law.

Good luck with that Harlow. And I think the same holds true for any hope he has of this being heard at the federal level, there are no federal issues at stake.

It's over for Harlow.

LOL, yeah I noticed that little time discrepancy too. The memorial that "Harlow" planned to attend had indeed come and gone.

I would actually chalk that up to whoever posting this to being in a hurry to use his phone, and not having time to absorb some of the details properly (like dates). Which for someone trying to conceal a phone, would be consistent.

Personally I think the "Harlow" post was a fraud. It was posted a little over 3 hours from mine. Not to mention the odd fact that "Harlow" is pleased to attend a visitation some 3 months AFTER the funeral?

Joe's dad died September 4, 2010

"Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the chapel followed by burial with military honors in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Yeah whoever posted as "Harlow" (be he the real thing or a hoaxster) was not too observant as to the chronological facts at the time he posted. I'm not sure that argues much either way, except maybe the poster was in a hurry.

Like I said, I first assumed it was a hoax, until I ran across articles about how rampant smart phones are these days in prison.

Just Google "prison cell phones" and you'll see what I mean.

I think prisons should install localized cell blocking technology (apparantly, there are FCC hurdles to this...but they should be hurdled).

Jim, I didn't realize there are articles about how rampant smart phones are in prisons. The one article you linked just uses the generic term "cell phones," which in my mind doesn't usually connote an iPhone-type device. If there are indeed "rampant" smart phones in prisons, then yes, I do think a little hustler like Harlow could very well have one.

One article I read mentioned regular phones selling on the prison black market for $200-300 dollars, while high end smartphones like the iPhone were going for about $1000.

----

All this change happning all at once can't be good. It's like over-night business models are flat-lined, rather than just things changing over the years as they always have. One model is crumbling before the next one has barely had a chance to take hold and become profitable.

But I did take a look at the free streams over at Bel Ami a couple weeks ago when I was at a freidns house. I wanted to show him the kind of production values I appreciate. Those beautiful and clean spacious bedrooms (likely rented hotel rooms), and the fresh faced nodels w/o tattos, which is in stark contrast to some of the Hollywood gay porn where they use a warehouse or dirty auto garage, and think of it as production design.

It's just a difference if taste, and only opinion I guess. But those online success stories seem to have somewhat lush production compared to that big mega gay porn house in LA.

Reverend Quicky sez: "I'd bet the Justin Hensley posting was also a hoax. I'd think he is still distancing himself from that whole ordeal as much as he can."

A "Justin Hensley" also posted on that pro-Harlow blog from England PC blogged about.

I'm sad I didn't screen capture it, before the whole Tumblr blog got deleted. This Justin Hensley (fake or real, who knows) posted rather fondly of Harlow, spoke of "good times" with him, memories, etc. Possibly even mentioned being in recent contact with Harlow, in prison? (I'm not about this last part, my recollection is hazy...but that was the sense one got).

Needless to say the gal running the blog was thrilled to have a inner circle Harlow friend on her blog, speaking so lovingly of him.

IF true...the whole interaction was unsettling. It implies Harlow and Hensley are still on good terms, despite he having testified against Harlow and Joe.

Now, add to this mix the bizzare hate-filled rant against PC when he tried to friend Andrew Shunk on Facebook last year.

Both these incidents cause me to wonder if both "Confidential Informants" were perhaps more pro-Harlow, and hence more unwilling to engage in this informant role than some of us assumed?

IOW, perhaps Elm was on to something all along, when he said they had a "deal." Although I doubt it was an actual deal...more likely, some subtle coercion involved in securing their cooperation.

It might explain the very peculiar post trial attitudes we are seeing here.

quickysrt I agree Europorn has been somewhat immune and I think for several reasons. Production values are still high, I know one particular ex-model who is a camerman in Prague and they have double the crew of a comparable US Porn production.

BelAmi was very late to the online party but when they opened the pay site it quickly became known as one the best in Porn. And for one monthly price you have an amazing amount of video with constant updates.

Something the US DVD studios refused to do.

Yet right there in the Bel Ami store you can find DVD's the dual model is working for them.

And you are right they seem to embrace the fantasy and story porn that US producers abandoned. Chi Chi and Falcon trying to emmulate Sean Cody and Corbin was a disaster.

I do see signs at Falcon/RSS that mat change...

i wanted to comment on what you said in the post about the matter of Brent's former BF being arrested and his prevaricating about it on his blog. You said:

Personally I think it was foolish for Brent to try to sweep the matter under the table on his blog, pretending his "Papi" wasn't behind bars. He would have been better off just being honest with his fans from the get go (which is a lesson Mason Wyler seems to have learned, based on what I've read about him and his latest escapades).

What I don't understand is why he felt the need to say anything at all on his blog, much less lie about it. It's not like all his fans and readers were breathlessly wondering "Where's Papi?" The only people who were aware that he was "missing" were friends of his and others in San Diego, and they all knew the truth anyway.

From what I understand, Mark Wilson tried to talk him out of that post, but to no avail. Speaking of Mark, of course you know it was his site Gayporngossip that outed Mason Wyler's HIV status. Oy, was that a brouhaha. It was only after that that Mason decided to be honest, so I'm not sure how much of a "lesson" he's learned (I assume that's what you were alluding to). But I think he's adjusted well to having the truth out there. I didn't agree with Mark's reasoning for publishing the information, but that's water under the bridge.

jim said...

Yeah it was Mason Wyler's post-brouhaha candor that I was referring to.

And yeah, I found myself (shockingly) sympathetic to Mason as I read through the entire affair. I can't see that he did anything wrong (except perhaps being an inconsiderate roommate to Porter Wescott...but that hardly justified what happened to him).

But OTOH, I can't fault Mark Wilson TOO much. I think he and Kevin Clarke honestly thought they had another Ashton Ryan on their hands.

Seems to me what happened was just a huge and unfortunate accident. When Porter wrote about Mason "spreading diseases" he was talking about another illness (syphilis was it?) apparantly...a phony disease Mason and his handlers concocted as a cover story. Not HIV.

Porter through no fault of his own thought what he was saying was true, because he was fed the cover story.

So anyways, Mark sees what Porter wrote, and jumped to the wrong conclusion. And reported as HIV, which was true, but not what Porter was talking about at all.

And in doing so, unneccessarily breached all this carefully crafted confidentality that Mason had out there with the legitimate (ie, non-DK) porn media.

If only Mark had checked with Porter before running that story...THAT was his mistake, a tiny and relatively innocent one that ended up having huge and very unfortunate consequences.

And again, I find myself (amazingly) not finding fault with Mason much in all of this. He went to solo work once he discovered his status, which was of courser the responsible thing to do. He opted to keep his status private (which is is right to do). Since he was only doing solo work, there was no harm in this.

And when the excrement hit the whirly blades, Mason once again (to my utter astonishment) once again did the right thing and came clean about everything.

So, when I say Mason seems to have learned a thing or two this past year, this is I'm coming from.

I read up on the affaire when a version of it was posted on Queerty.

I guess Mason is now doing bareback work with other HIV+ models. This is controversial, obviously. But again I have to tip my hat to his candor: the reason he gave was he still wants to do porn, and this is the only gig that'll hire him now: http://www.queerty.com/mason-wyler-why-im-returning-to-porn-as-an-hiv-bareback-performer-20110216/

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Jim Mason Wyler doing bareback porn now is only controversial because of "gay Porn Hypocrisy" and his public HIV status. I am sure everyone assumes the Treasure Island Media guys are poz.

Which brings up another issue,, I can be a bit more "open here" than on Twitter and my blog.

Since Masons HIV status became known and Austin Wildes soon after departure at Raging Stallion for Next Door Studios a sharp "Status divide" in Gay Porn has become apparent.

Word is if you are a Negative performer you make a POINT of working at Next Door(or Jet Set Men) which requires Testing of each model. NDS testing and several bloggers noticing Mason had not shot a duo scene after April 2010 is what got the gossip going about his changed status.

If you are positive you work at Raging Stallion/Falcon and the handful of Gay Porn studios who refuse to test..

When James Jameson was named in the "patient Zeta" story as the gay performer who infected Derrick Chambers, James made a Point of decamping to Next Door to film and then to make sure EVERYONE knew he has since released his test results and publicly placed himself in the Negative camp.

It should be readily apparent now the condoms vs bareback controversy was never about "model safety"

It was about making sure Poz performers could work in Gay Porn!

Something Straight Porn absolutely forbids!

An increasing number of Gay Studios (many owned or straight controlled) have instituted straight porn practice and refuse to hire anyone who tests poz for any STD.

I last touched on this in an interview with Boy Crush director and model Andy Kay who made the blanket statement if you are poz you have no place at our studio.

Needless to say that pushes some peoples buttons.

Should it?

will g said...

I see DeWayne posted in the time it's taken me to write this longwinded comment. He said you were accurate about the Wyler affair, but NOT COMPLETELY! My point-by-point response:

A) The disease Porter Wescott accused Mason of spreading was Hepatitis C. Which isn't even a sexually transmitted disease! So that "cover story" of Mason's didn't really make any sense, and neither did Porter's vindictive tweets about it.

B) Mark didn't jump to any conclusions based on Porter's tweets. Mark was TOLD "off the record" that Mason was HIV-positive by a rep from Next Door Studios, and THEY are the ones who should be excoriated for releasing the information, which by the way is illegal, because it was Next Door who arranged for the testing and thus had privileged access to his records. I pointed this out in a comment on The Sword, but I don't think it's gotten enough attention. I believe Mason's status was pretty widely known throughout the industry before Mark published it, or if people didn't know it they put two and two together because of the change in Mason's site. Anyway, whether or not we agree with what Mark did, to be fair to him he would never have posted that Mason was positive unless HE was positive that it was true.

C) Mark's rationale for revealing it was based mainly on the fact that Mason's Adam4Adam profile still listed him as HIV-negative. The conclusion I think Mark did jump to is that Mason was hooking up with random strangers, lying about his status, and having unsafe sex. Of course nobody knows that. I think Mason just wasn't ready to publicly "come out" by listing himself as positive online. I'd LIKE to believe that he was honest with his hookups, or at the very least was having safe sex. I'm sure a lot of people lie about their status on those sites. It's not our business to police them and disclose the status of those who do. IMHO. Some people, including Mark obviously, disagree, at least in this case.

D) I agree that Mason did the right thing when push came to shove, but he was really shoved, I don't think he had much choice in the matter. I just hope he's continuing to do the right thing by being safe.

That site is one of the stranger things to pop up on the internet, talk about a site with a single agenda. I wonder who was behind it? (coughGrantcough) And it's gone dormant, no updates on the conviction and sentencing.

"Mark's rationale for revealing it was based mainly on the fact that Mason's Adam4Adam profile still listed him as HIV-negative."

I read that too, but I kind of got the feel that was more of an lame after-the-fact rationale Mark cobbled up, after it was discovered he might have misinterpreted Porter on the matter. But I could be wrong.

It's a huge leap from not editing your A4A profile immediately after you seroconvert, to saying that person is knowingly infecting people. A HUGE leap. So, no matter how you slice it, it's a lame-ass rationale.

As I recall, Mason is on record saying he only had sex with other poz guys after he found out, and even that was rare. With the implication being, his blog persona of being being a sex-crazed manaic during this time was more publicity generating fiction than fact.

In other words, he wanted to mantain his image as the Charlie Sheen of gay porn. It was his schtick, and he wanted to keep talking the talk, without walking the walk.

FWIW, I tend to believe him here(yes, I know, I'm shocked at this too...but there you have it).

Kevin Clarke said...

Pesky little things called facts again. Mark Wilson and countless others knew 2 and 1/2 months before he made that post of the status of Mason Wyler. He stayed silent until he saw people at risk by a sex addict. Mason Wyler surely knew months before the post so it was hardly immediately after that he mistakenly did not change his A4A status.

Mark Wilson was also aware of the behavior pattens of Mason Wyler because he was informed of them by people with direct knowledge of them, myself included. I shot Mason Wyler three times in NYC and was shocked by his behavior. His bf was setting up tricks on A4A while he was was working. Mason had two modes; having sex or on his way too. He was with dozens of men in those three shoots all unsafe. I was concerned to the point I spoke with him about it on a patio of the Waldorf in NYC. I told him that his behavior like Ashton Ryan before him was going to end him up exactly where it did. Obviously I had no effect.

Now when Mark made his post Mason was actively seeking sex partners that day in Florida. On both Manhunt and Adam4Adam. On both claiming he was negative. Now if you want to assume he would tell a hot guy when he showed up he was positive and risk losing the sex you may but I have a bridge here in Brooklyn here to sell you.

Mason was giving an interview to the Advocate about wanting to be an anti HIV poster boy, while he was on a bareback site begging 4 loads. Keeping up his persona is hardly doing anything in the fight against HIV.

Mason is a sex addict. Like all addicts truth is not a part of their repertoire. He needed rehab, not dozens more loads.

Now I realize that some people moderate their anti-hiv stand because they need to feel important in the porn world with the Keith Miller's of that world that use teenagers for their bareback profit. However HIV is real, it does great damage, it still kills. If Mark Wilson saved one young gay man he is a hero.

jim said...

I don't recall reading about that during the controversy. Was evidence of this fresh hookup activity ever posted somewhere during the whole Sword vs. GAM debate? Because if so I missed it. And if it wasn't, it probably should have been.

will g said...

Hi Kevin. Well, you talk about "pesky little things called facts," but then you go on to make what seem like some assumptions about Mason's behavior post-diagnosis. What none of us can know for a fact is that he was having bareback sex and lying about his status after finding out he was positive, like Ashton Ryan. Assuming that he was doing so based merely on his behavior patterns before he converted seems unfair to me. It's possible, maybe even somewhat probable, but we don't know it for a fact.

Now you say he "was on a bareback site begging 4 loads," presumably after he knew he was positive. Mark made no mention of this in his Gayporngossip post. Perhaps he was alluding to it when he said the Adam4Adam profile was "one of many" reasons he decided to run the story. Unfortunately, the profile was the only concrete reason he gave in that post. I think this bareback site would have been a much more compelling and persuasive piece of evidence, I don't know why he didn't mention it.

Even so, I think it's pretty safe to say that anyone looking for anonymous hookups on a bareback site is most likely either positive themselves, or is for some sick reason hoping to become so. That is very sad. I don't think posting Mason's or anyone else's status would be much of a deterrent for those people.

I would never assume that Mason disclosed his status to his Adam4Adam or Manhunt hookups, so I won't be in the market for that bridge. As I said above, I would hope that even someone like Mason, who is yes, a sex addict, could at least adopt safer sex practices after seroconverting. Prior to reading your post, I thought it was unfair to him to presume that he hadn't. Now with this new information, assuming it's accurate, it seems that Mark might have had good reason to believe that he hadn't, better than I knew.

Still, nobody really knows what Mason was doing behind closed doors except for him and his sex partners. If someone were to come forward and say they had unsafe sex with him after he lied to them about his status, then I guess we would know that for a fact. God forbid anybody became infected that way. If that WAS going on, and Mark's post put a stop to it, then yes, he definitely did the right thing in this case.

jim said...

"I would never assume that Mason disclosed his status to his Adam4Adam or Manhunt hookups, so I won't be in the market for that bridge."

I also wouldn't assume it either, but I also wouldn't necessarily discount it. And he needn't have this conversation awkwardly "at the door" as you put it; doing it in chat online beforehand is also possible.

But yeah, if someone did come forward to say flat out "Mason hooked up with me and didn't disclose" well, then yes, that would be a different story.

Also just to note that I have been watching the SD Sheriff website for trial information. I have just recently checked:
apps.sdsheriff.net/wij/wijDetail.aspx?BookNum=10769441
That was he and now he is gone. I presume into the California Prison system.

Jim my point was I witnessed it first hand. He screwed everything in site, only did them once and told everyone they were the best sex he ever had. I confronted him because I had seen it all before. Seen the devastation, and thought at the very least I could try and make some sense.

I not only told him that he was at risk for HIV but I also told him that between the time Ashton had contracted it and testes positive many other people had become infected, one who has his first sexual encounter with him. So this was not just about Mason it was about how that behavior could impact others.

I also was well aware that he would say anything, make up any lie to score. He went to see the play wicked when he was here and was recognized in the audience, and was brought backstage after the show met the cast and went out with them for drinks after the show. He was with a young man that worked for me so I got the story first hand. He made dates with several of the cast members, including separate dates with two that were dating each other and they found out before either of them went out with him. He lied to both of them telling each one he would not go near the other.

It was a train wreck waiting to happen and it did. His subsequent behavior including his bareback shoots, his promising to release private video's when he reached 10,000 followers on twitter, and his actively trying to get as many people to cum in him as he could since then show that nothing has changed.

Everything I saw was corroborated by others, and obviously true. He told me he had been with in excess of over 1000 men he had lost count long ago and that is probably a conservative number.

Frankly I am rather lost in all of this. I hear reasonable people say we all are adults, and can make choices. That to me is insane. when you decide it is alright to risk/get HIV you to me are a risk to yourselves and others. The very nature of making that decision tell me you are a danger to yourself.

Step outside the porn thinking where some people feel the need to justify anything as a right and they will tell you the same thing. This is all insane. All reckless, and destroying many lives in the process.

To me it a moral bankruptcy that permeates all of this. The same moral bankruptcy that said Brian Kocis stands in our way lets kill him. The same lack of respect these clowns had shooting bareback sex because that is what the people want.

There were many victims in the Mason Wyler saga, Mason however was not one of them. He was a perpetrator of disease, grief, and misery. On a closing note I can tell you first hand getting anyone to come forward in situations is difficult, and when they do getting law enforcement to do anything is almost impossible.

Kevin, I get the impression (correct me if I'm wrong) you're talking about witnessing all these incidents from BEFORE he knew he was positive.

I guess the $64 question is, did you or anyone you know with certainty know he did these things AFTER he knew he seroconverted? AND it was certain he didn't disclose?

Because here's his side of the story:

"Since testing positive in May, I have hooked up with a total of three people and they were all HIV positive themselves. Seriously. I have not gone around fucking, barebacking, or infecting HIV negative people."

The source for that quote is here: http://www.queerclick.com/archive/2010/08/mason_wyler_hiv_story_ignites_gay_porn_b.php

So...is there any solid evidence out there that this is not the truth?

He may indeed have been a whoremonger before...but to use that to infer he was a whoremonger after...see, that's not solid evendence, that's merely inference.

So, to reinterate the question, which I think really needs to be answered with laser beam precision...is there any solid evidence (not inference based on past history) that his statement that he only had post seroconversion intercourse with only 3 fellow positive guys untrue?

That's the $64 question. All else (to quote a certain someone) is really, all smoke, mirrors and bullshit.

Ernie, DeWayne received this notification yesterday:

This e-mail is to inform you that ERIC MARTINEZ has been transferred from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The transfer took place on 3/17/2011. The offender is now in the custody of Donovan State Prison.

I am extremely curious what you mean when you say "I think anything bad portrayed of him is due to his desire to protect his partner." That sounds to me like you think Sean is the real criminal here, but the way you worded it is unclear.

Actually, I am also curious to know more about the crimes Eric committed. It's all rather vague to me. All I really know at this point is that it involved burglary and there was quite a bit of stolen property.

will g said...

Just wanted to add that failure to disclose one's HIV-positive status before having unprotected sex is a crime in many states, including Texas. If there WAS solid evidence that Mason was engaging in such behavior, the proper course of action would have been to inform law enforcement, not simply to post his status on a porn blog.

Kevin Clarke said...

If you choose to believe the words of a pathological liar what can I say. Just what do you suppose he was doing on Adam4Adam and Manhunt?Looking for people to play canasta?

Now you suggest that there is no evidence that he is a whore monger since, other that him announcing a cross country trip looking for hookups and as many loads as he can take?

Hr flat out lied to the Advocate for publicity. He has lied every step of the way. As I stated he was well aware of the risks of the behavior for himself and others. Did not care. Now if you are suggesting that whomever was infected between the time he got it and found out is ok there is not much I can say to that.

He is beating the drums for multiple loads constantly, shooting bareback porn, lying his ass off at every turn, and you search for the benefit of the doubt.I guess that makes sense to you. Having lived through the very same thing it is my experience that this sexual addiction illness he has does not go away because you say it has. It certainly does not go away while you are actively searching out sex partners across the country.

He did not care before, there is nothing in his actions that show he says anything other than what he thinks people want to hear. As I said he was telling the advocate that he wanted to be in the fight against hiv while on the very same day he was searching for loads on a bareback website. He was was told how hot it would be to see him take as many loads as possible and he did not say oh no I am responsible now.

You present his take on it now. How many examples of this Typhoid Mary lying his ass off does it take before one stops saying well this is what he says. He says whatever he needs to say to have sex. Believe him if you choose, hell play canasta with him.

Kevin Clarke said...

Will g... the idea that reporting someone and that will get any response from law enforcement simply is admirable but frankly useless. As Dewayne can attest when we brought people to the police in California that had been lied to by Ashton Ryan they did nothing. It was a crime but they could not have cared less. I am not talking theory here. Two young men one who had been lied too just two days earlier, that we took to the hospital for shots, and one who had gotten it from him were both brought into the police station, and nothing happened.

I was at a porn party my last time at a Las Vegas porn show and Ashton Ryan was there with his new BF. I was pleasant. A few minutes later I was in another room with a Miami Studios model who had worked with Ashton at the Beachboi website. I told him that it was commendable that people with HIV were not ostracized form working. He asked what I meant, I told him and he turned white as a ghost, and ran from the room.

A few minutes later as I was leaving with a model of mine that had gotten too drunk Ashton's new BF came screaming down the hall yelling at me saying how dare I lie about his status. He knows he is negative he has seen the test, and I am a jealous old man making up lies to keep Ashton from making his own movies. I yelled back would you like to talk to some of the people he gave it too. and Ashton came running down the hall threatening to kill me is I said another word.

That young man now has HIV and god only knows how many others do. Again as Dewayne can attest the police said "If this was Syphilis we could do something". I do not come at this with joy. I also do not come at this without many scars from the battle. Seeing the impact on people's lives.

I mentioned the guy who got it from Ashton after his first sexual encounter. He had to tell his mother he was gay and had HIV in the same conversation. She was hysterical. The next day he took her to dinner for mothers day. As the salad came to the table the medication he had just started unsettled his stomach and he threw up all over the table.

My point being in the real world there are consequences and ugly realities. It just isn't as simple as go to the authorities who will do nothing, and even if they did, it could be weeks or months before they did.

jim said...

"If you choose to believe the words of a pathological liar what can I say."

Well, I'm just wondering if there was any solid proof that should make one not believe it.

And yes, he announces a load-taking promotional tour, but OTOH as you say:

"Hr flat out lied to the Advocate for publicity. He has lied every step of the way."

And you know, when it comes to Mason's reputation for honesty,
you're preaching to the choir here.

It's just that, I find myself wondering, which way was he lying? Was he "lying for publicity" purposes when he says he was going to have a sensational amount unprotected sex? Or was he lying when he said he only had sex with 3 fellow hiv+ partners??

He is, as you say, a pathological liar, so the case can be made both ways.

I wonder, did the discovery of his status have a life-awakening effect on him, such as to curb his addiction in the way he describes? That seems to be the story Mason is telling.

And your incredibly moving stories about Ashton Ryan, case in point: Here we have ALL these boys we KNOW he deceived and infected.

Are there any similar Mason stories from deceived and infected partners out there?

Because if as you believe the cases are similar, there should now be similar horror stories from victims in circulation now, right?

jim said...

"Will g... the idea that reporting someone and that will get any response from law enforcement simply is admirable but frankly useless."

A bit off topic, but this point reminds me of the endless debates we had on the issue of whether Brent and Grant ever did go to the FBI over Cobra's 2257 problems. (although, I forget why this was considered important back then!)

I can't recall who it was, but there was this one commenteer in particular who had a fetish over this; he would say, 'Oh had they REALLY gone to the FBI, why, G-man would have SWARMED into Luzerne Cty and arrested everyone in sight! I can't BELIEVE they really went to the FBI over the 2257s, and I can't BELEIVE the FBI really did nothing!'

Kevin Clarke said...

Well simply put if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck odds are it's a duck. Now we are not in a court of law here. We are not looking for beyond reasonable doubt. What we are talking about is keeping young men from getting HIV. I have seen Mason Wyler use his fame and looks just like Ashton Ryan did. For heavens sake he was recognized sitting in the front row of Wicked here in NYC (he got front row seats because they have a pre-show lottery that three of us put our name in and one won)and was asked backstage.

A young man sees a porn star and loses all concept of reality. I have seen it over and over. Most of these situations end up fine. However some don't. Let me give you an example. One of the young men who had a night with Mason went to sleep with another young man who insisted on using a condom. The young man then refused because condom use meant the boy had something.Reality turned upside down. The world of young men now is that a small minority practice safe sex. A large majority take the word of their partner and go unsafe.

I see nothing in his behavior that has deviated from his past behavior. He always would tell you he played safe if he thought it was what he wanted to hear. Sex addiction is just like any other. It does not go away because you want it too, you need to work on getting it under control. Just like a drunk after a bad night says through his hangover "I an never drinking again" and that lasts till the hangover subsides.

The idea that Mason Wyler would risk losing sex by telling someone he was HIV positive defies logic to the extent of we are not talking of a hangover here, we are talking about getting HIV.

He came right in to my world and had sex with everyone in sight. To me it's personal. Having said that I am not without compassion for him. As I said he needs a rehab, and a way to get away from the sex world. Not many alcoholics make it by bar tending and playing beer pong in their spare time. Sex addicts doing porn, and asking for loads all across the country? Um no.

Mason Wyler's shower/pool scene with Sean in Summit was dreamy, sexy, provocative, and sweet (until they got up on the chez and started fucking, which burst the bubble for me; I sold the DVD on eBay). Look, not even Joe and Harlow, who chopped a man's head off and set his house on fire, were handed death sentences. Mason has to believe that he has been handed a death sentence, and it will likely be carried out a lot sooner than for murderers on death row. No matter what his past misdeeds, he gets a bye from me, not that that would matter to him.

ugh another comment into the ether (error was on my end Jim I came back and it said Blogger error)

Ashton Ryan what a fucking mess that was and KC is correct we had several people reporting his lying ass and no one gave a damn!

Indeed in a moment of honesty one public health nurse informed me we had our selves to blame as a "community"

HIV is in a special protected status even though its an infectious STD. If Mr.Ryan had Syphilis he could be forced to seek treatment and even be arrested to compel change in behavior up to and including quarantine!

So because some homophobic asshole legislators in the 1980's pushed for INTERNMENT of all Gay Men (remember that?) HIV is handled very differently.

I was told its really up to the community to watch and warn other gay men of the danger of some toxic individuals.

But how exactly do we do that?

As much as I despise Masons behavior I do have to mention any one who has sex with him shares some responsibility! After all you can't claim you don't know WHO and WHAT he is.

Will your comment about Paul and Ernie. Plenty of people were fooled. As for the charge sheet it was posted at one time on the SD Sheriffs site and was almost all burglary and theft of service charges.

Like shopping at Costco and writing a huge bad check. Attending a Day Spa (at least we know he is gay) and walking out with out paying.

The other charges I believe were in New Mexico.

Oh and Jim I cant resist...

All we have is an arrest date. So, there's no indication of when all those crimes occured. Which would be interesting to know (they could have been from before Martinez ever met Brent, for all we know).

We do know:

1) Brent wasn't arrested; and
2) As far as I can tell, he wasn't even summoned as a witness in the case (right?).

Both of those facts suggest Brent wasn't involved in any of that illegal activity. The police, from what we can tell, don't seem to be interested in him at all.

And yes, I have tried to look up info on the case, but San Diego doesn't put criminal case files online.

Dear Geoff,
Heaven forbid again we deal in facts. Now there is only one person that says stuff like that about me and that would be Yep Kent Barclay. Now you may insult me all you like, but you obviously know nothing about me. For that matter you know less about my eating habits, which surely are not relevant to the point I was making.

For the record I am now 22 years clean and sober. When I was in LA in the xxx business it was my doorstep that people with drug and alcohol problems ended up. I have worked very hard to stay sober, and to help others in the battles they have against their addictions. The entire porn industry knows this about me, but then since neither you or Kent are part of the industry how would you know that. If you doubt my veracity on matters of addiction just ask around. If you dispute the statements I made regarding addiction ask any specialist. Insult me all you want but I am a pornographer do you think there is anything I have not been called?

One thing I can tell you about addiction is that it should never be used as the butt of a joke from a horses ass. It is a life and death struggle every day.

DeWayne, you said:

"HIV is in a special protected status even though its an infectious STD. If Mr.Ryan had Syphilis he could be forced to seek treatment and even be arrested to compel change in behavior up to and including quarantine!"

The California Criminal Code says:

Under California law, transmission of HIV may constitute an aggravated battery.

While that's a weaker law than other states, where it can be charged as attempted murder (I believe), it's still on the books. So HIV does not have this "special protected status" in CA that you spoke of. In fact, it's the only STD written into the code under "Assault and Battery."

Now I have no idea when this law was passed, so I suppose it may not have been on the books at the time you reported Ashton Ryan. If it was the law then, the officer you spoke to was derelict in his duty and flat-out wrong when he said there was nothing they could do. If I were in your shoes, I might have considered going to the press and exposing both Ryan and the SDPD.

As for Eric's crimes, the only ones listed on his charge sheet online after his next-to-last court appearance were the burglary charges. All the others, including bad checks and drug charges, had been dropped. So he is in prison on the burglary charges only. That is my best understanding.

When I said I'd like to know more details about his crimes, it's just my morbid curiosity. My understanding from Grant is that he was looking at a sentence of 12 years when he took the plea bargain for 4 years 4 months. 12 years is a pretty harsh sentence for burglary, he was no petty crook.

Will apples and oranges here!

What I was referring to was PREVENTION and or Intervention, you are referring to the penalty AFTER the fact when it's a criminal matter. That is prosecuting AFTER someone has been arrested.

We were trying to have authority's intervene in the case of a 17yo boy who Ashton was having unprotected sex with. The boy had admitted to this then clammed up when he was told about Ryans HIV status.

The correct procedure was three fold

Report to

Dept of Public Health

The Local DA

and SDPD SEX Crimes division

ALL THREE told us to take a hike.

It was the DPH social worker who said her hands were tied until such time as the 17 yo came in was tested and THEN PRESSED CHARGES.

That was not going to happen...

and yes under Cali Criminal Law it is an aggravated misdemeanor and hell if I know the last time they actually took anyone to court.

Florida and Texas and many other states its a Felony

will g said...

Oy, there are so many long comments in this thread that I got confused about who said what. It was Kevin who talked about going to the police about Ashton, DeWayne only mentioned speaking to a public-health nurse. But they both agree that no action was taken.

DeWayne just said he was told nothing could be done unless one of Ashton's victims who contracted HIV came in, was tested, and pressed charges. Kevin did say one such young man was brought to the police, he didn't say explicitly that he wanted to press charges, but I can't imagine why else he was there.

And still nothing happened. Ashton should be very grateful.

Kevin Clarke said...

Will, It is really hard to describe events such as these because they seemingly are unbelievable. Every time these young men did what was asked of them by the authorities the goal post was moved. Getting these young men to stand up is not easy, they are not keen on the idea of telling the world their status, and their own mistakes. When they do it is a combination of anger, and the desire to not have it happen to anyone else.

Some like the 17 YO won't say anything because they "Love" him... The authorities will go as far as taking statements and wait for the people who made them to give up. It takes courage to go to the police, the expectations of justice on some level are high. When they get up the courage, and their hopes and nothing happens it is another heartbreak on top of the others.

Ashton like Mason Wyler had a A4A profile saying he was negative. The behavior patterns were strikingly similar. Mason Wyler's privacy was not breached by Mark Wilson. It was breached by the company that had the test's done then in order to cover it's ass and look good released those results to many people.

From that point on the story was used by people for their own personal agenda's and forgotten was the trail of devastation left behind. No one called for testing of the models Mason had worked with. On the straight side someone tests positive and the industry is shut down, people are quarantined.

The bottom line is that terrible infectious diseases were and are being spread. People cheer when they see infected people "Breeding" each other. It is insane madness all so someone can make money.

Btw, you are an awesome blogger, so Please don`t close this blog, don't keep searching the truth (papi's truth)

I think other respectible porn sites not picking up the Martinez arrest was a grey area. He wasn't really a porn star, but he wasn't really a total outsider either. And for whatever reason, it looks like all erred on the side of caution on this one.

You know who I'm *very* surprised never wrote about this, after it happened? Michael Lucas.

And incidentally, the reason I felt I should cover it as an anniversary topic was that I thought the details intersected with with many past subjects of this blog, in a somewhat ironic way.

I take back what I said about Dustin Zito. I finally made it through more than five minutes of The Real World, and he has his shirt off through most of it. His body is tighter than Harlow's was. I still dislike the premise of the show, which is to toss young people into improbably luxurious digs, give them cushy intern jobs, and tell them to create false conflict and call that the real world. Put them in a slum or at least into a realistic snake ranch and have them run a Korean store or work midnight security at a citrus processing plant or park cars at the auto auction or wash pots all night at the Vietnamese bakery ("no smoke break, you work").

Albert, I got what Jim meant. He had covered the confrontation Eric had with Michael Lucas at the GayVN's, so there's your intersection. And anything to do with Sean (and other porn stars) and legal issues is the in the purview of this blog.

Speaking of Michael Lucas Jim, given that this HASN'T been covered anywhere but here and on that PornTruth site, which nobody knows about, I doubt Michael Lucas is even aware of Eric's arrest and incarceration. The only other way he could know about it is if he saw Grant's tweets or if he just heard it through the porn grapevine, which is possible I guess.

DeWayne In San Diego said...

I wondered about this myself the hyper attention paid to everything Brent Corrigan in 2007 was certainly not repeated with Eric Paul Martinez.

I think Jim alluded to one explanation, and that was Brent did receive a bit of a pass this time.

Why?

1.Well in talking to several bloggers who knew the story and declined to run it, they mentioned the "ugliness around the Cobra/Kocis/Harlow and Joe blogs" (I think they were referring to some of the posters NOT the Blogs)

2.There is no money here (the story) meaning it distracts from the porn bloggers core mission (selling porn)

3."He is not INDUSTRY" one specific comment from a blogger was this "I can name 3 pornstars right now whose SO"s are in Jail or Prison what IS the point?"

4.And IMO seriously a significant number of people in Porn may have thought Brent was involved in the Kocis murder in Feb 2007, but after the trial and testimony by Sean,I think most "industry insiders" reached the same conclusions we did here on PC and your blog.

5.Michael Lucas? Oh he is scared to death of me...(JK)

Geoff I have ALWAYS referred to the "Real World" as The Fake World that show really set the pattern for every contrived, fake PRODUCER managed "reality show" that followed! 25 YEARS of this crap!

Albert whats Vague? I think Jim was being very clear ;-)

I really don't know enough about it to have an informed opinion. Yes I have heard that Grant struck him, and I've heard about a restraining order, but this is all second- and third-hand information, I don't know all the facts.

My impression is that most of Grant's ire post-breakup was directed toward Eric, that's certainly who he's been most vocal about. And it now appears he's been vindicated in his assessment of Eric's character.

For one thing this was during MOST of the period of time in question a private matter and frankly no ones business.

When Paul was arrested the situation changed but I was simply NOT interested in making public comments.

Today what has changed?

Paul Martinez is now a TWICE Convicted felon and has been transferred to a State Prison all a matter of Public record.

Sean has obviously moved on and is trying to maintain some privacy (can we fault him for that? methodology yes)

And finally I will say Grant has indeed been vindicated I think he is a better judge of character than most give him CREDIT FOR!

jim said...

"I would like to know what you, Albert, Dewayne and Willg think about the way Grant has behaved after Sean ended their relationship..."

Compared to the breakup reactions of his two previous relationship partners (Henriquez and Kocis) I'd say Grant's reaction has been relatively restrained.

Henriquez did everything in is power to sabotage Brent after they broke up (most notably in spreading the secret of his actual age, a revenge strategy that eventually paid off...look up my 3-part "Guy Who Started It All" post for a refresher on that)

Kocis...well, do I really have to elaborate on that one??? I mean, wow...

So, of the three Grant appears to be the most calm and rational one here. He's clearly not now happy with Brent, and is certainly revelling in "karma" as he puts is, but at least he's not threating him with prison rape, or hiring private investigators to cause havok at his promotional events on the other side of country.

And like Will said, it looks like most of his frustration was/is vented on Martinez, who he felt was a negative influence (and given current events, it's seems he may have a point).

I suppose it is, yes. Perhaps he was hoping to use the threat of running a story to blackmail some form of nice gesture towards him from Brent.

You know how he loves to trumpet every rare instance when someone in the industry acknowledges or writes about him in a non-insulting way....

No, I've never quite seen the point of Twitter.

"do you think brent isn't as "socially" fascinating as he used to be??"

Oh, I don't know. I guess it's hard to be as fascinated about him these days. Without being the center of an underage scandal, then a legal porn war of unparalled nastiness, then a murder case; you know, little things like that!

His life has settled down considerably. Which thus, by definition, makes it less interesting. But FWIW, I suspect Brent himself is perfectly fine with this trade-off. :-)

Although, he should really use this peaceful time to redouble his efforts to write his promised book on the past 4 years of his life. With each passing year, people that were fascinated by it may begin to forget about the whole saga, which would negatively impact any financial benefit he may reap from it.

You gotta strike when the iron's hot, as they say.

Dewayne, this is really interesting... why do you think he has such a large fan base?

jim said...

"btw, what do you expect from Peter's book??? isn't it too late to release a book about a murder in 2007??"

I don't know! And I think it'll be timely enough.

We do have the blurb to go on as to what to expect; I bit surprised not too many have commented on it yet.

Like, what do people think of the proposed title "Cobra Killer?" I'm thinking maybe it should be pluralized?

And what about this: "Their motive? An ill-conceived attempt to lure a rising gay porn star named Brent Corrigan away from the grips of Kocis and into their crumbling, self-built porn empire."

I'd love me some Elm commentary on that!

Anonymous said...

I think Grant will be delighted with the title...

jim said...

Somehow I suspect that's not the case. :-)

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Somewhat a mystery Anon its not all because of his being a Gay Pornstar.

Brent Corrigan was late to RELUCTANTLY embrace Twitter (Sept 2009) and he is not really as prolific a Twitter User as Brent Everett (22,881)his closest in numbers.

There seems to be a real "name recognition" world wide. Of course he rejects a great many followers(blocking) because they are underage teens. The other large group of fans include women and Asians.

Some other Twitter numbers

DJChiChiLaRue 14,600
Steve Daigle (from Big Brother 10 turned pornstar) 10,714
Wolf Hudson 10,654
Chris Porter 8,214
Jayden Grey 7,468
Jason Sechrest 5,473

have you ever thought of writing a book about the bryan murder case?

DeWayne In San Diego said...

Coffee time ( I do enjoy this after the long break) I will leave tonight with this.

I think the books will benefit from time and distance from the events of 2007 thru the trial.

And the best book may come in the form of a fictional retelling a sort of In Cold Blood..

Where is today's Truman Capote ;-)

And like In Cold Blood I imagine such a book will be a magnet for lawsuits.

Or maybe just possibly Gus Van Sant will be inspired to give the story his "Rivers Edge" and "To Die For"
both films based on true life crime.

No, I've always felt this blog was and is my magnum opus to this case. I'm happy with it.

dewayne, thanks for the information. I agree with you. Being a porn star is not the key to his success. it could be the object of sociological research!!

Since this is the year-in-review thread, and now we're talking about Jayden Grey, I suppose we should mention in passing that little kerfuffle where Jayden went on a Twitter rampage trashing Brent and flat-out called him a murderer, which Zachary Sire somehow thought was worthy of its own post on The Sword on a very slow news day, and then some weeks later Jayden and Brent hugged it out and all was forgiven just in time for the Cybersockets. Remember that? What's next, Jason Ridge, John Roecker and Brent become BFF's?

will g, just one question: how is it possible that brent and all his fans and friends have preferred to tiptoe around sucha a bad taste comment by the vulgar, ignorant, unappealing and digusting Jayden Gray?????

as I said before, he is a second hand, cheap replacement for brent.
Trying to live his life (pathetic photos in the same room, the same pool at grant's house, photos with his former boyfriend, tweeting to all the people related to brent... )
the poor boy has't even realized that brent is way out of his league!!!

Well Anon, um asim, I am not going to attempt to speak for Brent and all his fans and friends, but if I know anything about Brent's fans, I know they aren't shy about coming to their boy's defense, so I would venture to guess they didn't "tiptoe" around Jayden's comments at all. I didn't monitor his Twitter feed at the time, but I would imagine Jayden was inundated with tweets from them. Brent himself, to his credit, never said a word about it publicly, that I know of.

The worst thing I'll say about Jayden is that he's desperate for attention. I'll just leave it at that.

Jim can't turn moderation off because of another attention whore with the initials DK.

"River's Edge" was directed by Tim Hunter, who since the early "90"s has been principally a TV director. (See, with IMBD, anyone can be an expert.) It is a fine little film which plumbs the depths of human depravity and is a dark portrait of its teenaged characters, while Van Sant's "To Die For" is darkly funny, like "Drugstore Cowboy.". Keanu Reeves' character is the moral center of the River's Edge story, and he was cast by Gus Van Sant in "My Own Private Idaho."

will, this is the best thing you could say about Jayden. Very subtle!!!!

Geoff, as a "movie literate", what is your opinion about Douglas McGrath's Infamous?
btw, any opinions about eric martinez/brent story, jayden gray, grant etc etc...I know,I know, too insignificant for you...but I really want to get your opinion about "little things like that"

asim said...

I did it, and surprinsingly, there was no tweets inundation!!!
still wondering why...

Geoff Harvard said...

asim, I missed Infamous, mostly because I'm not interested in Truman Capote, but I guess the story line is closely related to what we are discussing. (I remember reading the coverage in Life magazine when I was 11 or 12.) Now my neighborhood Blockbuster has closed and gutted in connection with their bankruptcy, and I haven't adapted to Nexflix, etc. I assume that Eric Martinez has or had a lot of affection for Sean, although I didn't follow the saga closely. You would have to have a lot of affection for someone to carry him around on your shoulders all day at SDPride and sink $4k into a rental you shared. Grant sounds bitter, vindictive, and aggressive, and always has. I have said elsewhere that I found the account of his and Sean's meeting at Lee Bergeron's house to be a nasty story. I assume that Sean found that relationship to be beneficial for a period of years. I am aware that Jayden Gray is someone whom Grant moved in after his breakup with Sean and that Sean had some bitter things to say about that on his blog, but I don't know anything beyond that since I don't follow porn models. In fact, if I encountered someone I believed were a porn model, I would urge him to run for his life and get a gig at American Apparel.

Originally Peter C. stated that this book was not going to be a National Enquirer style read. Or something to that effect.

Then we read the blurp you posted Jom, and it sounds very sensationlized, and very National Enquirer imo.

The case has rather sensationl aspects, so that angle is not so out there at all. It just seems a 180 from what PC said last year going by the blurp.

They must have done the demographics, talked to editors at publishers, and realized where the money was, what were the chances of the book being "still born" stiff, and then re-thought out their angle(s).

And knowing what I know about the author's style, it's going to be a trash talkin' read!

Seems to me what happened was just a huge and unfortunate accident. When Porter wrote about Mason "spreading diseases" he was talking about another illness (syphilis was it?) apparantly...a phony disease Mason and his handlers concocted as a cover story. Not HIV.
----

Not sure how it plays into the timeline, but perhaps Mason Wyler became HIV+ when he was raped in that brutal attack a while back, no?

Right Geoff, the pay is now definitely better at American Apparel, in the long run.

Back over a year ago when as some of you may remember when LA up and comer Blake Riley retired from the industry after a few hit videos and some controversy over his roles in late videos.

Anyway, I walked into Gold's gym, the same one I have been at for over 15 years, and grab my card to be scaned, look up to see who else but Blake Riley working the front desk at Gold's in Hollywood. This was a good three months before his official anouncement that he quit the biz.

But I though to myself, good for him doing some real legit work.

See, it you ever went to the old Athetic Club in West Hollywood when they were opened, it was not unusual to see 3 to 5 porn models there at a time, and even some of them working the front counter. I never figured out if they went to that gym as an entry way into adult film work, or the other way around.

But Blake seemed to find Gold's as one of the ways out of that industry. I'd bet he took a look at the new rates being offered, and then told them to ram their own dick up their asses.
