The Falcon Application

Picking up again our journey back in time, two years ago today...

It's now been two days since the critical "hang-up call," and Harlow and Joe are likely still moping about the house, still under a mountain of debt, and still wondering what to do next. We can possibly imagine arguments breaking out between them, over the past couple days? Recriminations by Harlow against Joe, for being such a spendthrift (with Harlow's credit, no less)? For losing his temper, threatening Brent and Grant, and thus blowing the "deal" (or what they thought for a time was a deal, anyways). We can also imagine Joe lashing back...maybe this is when bulletholes get shot into the bedroom wall?

Interesting speculation no doubt, but lets stick to what we know.

And what we do know is that Harlow did something very interesting today...he applied to be a model at Falcon.

This is interesting, in that it tells us a couple things. One, it confirms that their Boybatter porn operation was indeed failing. If Harlow was reduced to working for Falcon at the base industry scene rate, then obviously Boybatter DVDs were not, after overheard is factored into it, selling well enough to earn them a better return. Being their own porn studio was harder than they thought, it would seem.

Second, it confirms the severity of the hang-up call. They saw their bridges with Grant pretty much burnt, and so, accepting BCO's original offer to work for them was obviously no longer a practical option at this time. Even though it wouldn't take care of their immediate financial woes, Harlow needed to find additional income streams, so might as well get the ball rolling on that now. Harlow puts down as a reference the only person connected with Falcon he knows...Brent Corrigan:

It is perhaps soon after this rather crushing self-admission of failure and diminished options that Harlow and Joe began to seriously consider a more radical and immediate solution to the "direct competition" that stood in their way: Bryan Kocis of Cobra Video.

It's a bit ironic that Harlow applied to Falcon with Brent as a reference, since Brent's one Falcon flick "Velvet Mafia" is thought by some to eerily predict the Kocis murder. And who knows, if Harlow had gotten a positive response from them, it might have have been prevented.

Will G writes, "[S]ince Brent's one Falcon flick "Velvet Mafia" is thought by some to eerily predict the Kocis murder . . . ."

"Some?" How about one person in particular? I understand what you are saying Will, but this film was pure escapist art. Coincidence in a very broad sense was stretched to be an imitation of life itself.

I do agree with you though that a Falcon return phone call might easily have prevented a tragedy.

Then, something related. Does anyone get the impression that Harlow was trying to distance himself from association with Joe? Harlow branching out on his own and trying to make a life without Joe and his mood swings?

Now lets review this situation.

Harlow applied at Cobra Video.
Bryan responded to the application.
Big mistake.

Harlow applied at Falcon.
Falcons response seems to have been less of a mistake.

As we shall see in coming days, Harlow offered Cobra certain "carrots" for an interview he did not offer to Falcon, making an immediate positive response far more likely.

Yes Harlow wanted away from Joe, he planned to set up shop with Sean Lockhart.

Harlow leaving Joe and getting ready to set up shop with Brent-

I do not think so - but do not know for sure-

- I do not for a second think that Harlow was romantically interested in Brent Corrigan- ever.

VJ that is one thing we can both agree on, sorry about that but it is the truth. I know how much it pains you to be on the same page as me.

This is a two-part loaded statement. The first statement (is this your comment VJ?), 1) no he was not about to set up shop with Sean/Brent and kick Joe to the curb (I agree). But the second part, about Harlow not being interested in Brent for more reasons than money.

I would say based on his body language, there was more than a little interest. It is on display in pictures, just about every picture of the two you will see.

And if we could see the whole Black's Beach video taped footage, then there would be no doubt. But I am totally convinced based on what we have seen in pictures and (Harlow's) writing. Brent noted it at least once in his blog posts a while back.

VJ we are looking at Harlow through a 2009 eyes.

In December 2006 I WANTED Harlow to work with Brent, I went on Brents My Space and left a message yes work with this guy!

Any attraction was purely porn related Brent was looking for guys to shoot with and Harlow was definitely a hot find.

Today we know Harlow is a killer and that certainly affects his Sexual magnetism.

DEATH and SEX dont mix.

My $0.02: I'd agree it's very possible there was one-way infatuation, Harlow to Brent. This is Brent Corrigan we are talking about, after all; and they had been apparantly talking online off and on for months, discussing the possibility of having sex with each other - professionally, on camera.

Joe may have easily become infatuated too.

And there is evidence Harlow talked of this infatuation with others, exagerrating it into a "relationship."

Just theories, mind you; but if true this would nicely supplement the primary financial motive behind the murder.

When Brent writes his book, I imagine he'll feature these communications with Harlow.

I do think there was infatuation for Sean on Harlow's part. But I also believe it was COMPLETELY one-way, and may have been developing into the kind of warped thinking you find with stalkers. The fact that he apparently had a fantasy that he had a romantic relationship with Sean -- which he seems to have told several people -- strikes me as scarily stalker-ish. It's also the kind of obsession that could very well have played a partial role in motivating him to kill Bryan, the evil man who was keeping him from Sean, professionally and, in his mind anyway, personally. Sean may also have unwittingly played into this, through what has been described as his online "wooing" of new models.

Will G--

This last comment of Your is probably the closest analysis to that particular truth as will ever be had regarding Harlow's view of Sean.

Yep.

And let me make a related point too. If you guys recall, in the Roecker interview Harlow said this conversation occured, sometime post-Vegas:

"...So we went out there, and it was great, it was great, we shook hands and that was it, it's done, we were filming at the San Francisco AVN's on the 24th of February, and then slowly, I mean, you know Sean with more ideas of expanding and what not, I suggested that I go meet his old boss.

You know, I was, I wasn't really aware too much about this Cobra... against Lockhart, Corrigan thing, and I, I took him up on his idea... and I said sure."

And you can see a couple REALLY obvious problems here at the outset. First, the idea to meet Kocis originates first with Harlow...but by the end of the statement miraculously becomes Brent's idea.

Second, that Hawlow is not too aware of the Cobra lawsuit is patently absurd as the pending settlement of it was a major topic at the dinner.

And one third less obvious problem: WHEN could it have possibly occured?

There was only one communincation between Vegas and the murder we know of: The Hang-Up Call. I don't think Harlow was even on the phone for this.

It could not have occured before the hang-up call IMO, because the hang-up call occured precisely because the call was due to a total miscommunication between the parties in this time span.

And I can't see it occuring after, as the next think Grant says to Sean after hanging up on Joe was "Screw those guys. Don’t talk to them anymore." Which is Grant merely stating the obvious, as relations have been severed at this point.

So, I could not include this so-called conversation in my narrative even if I wanted to...as I have nowhere to logically put it!

You combine this with the fact there was NO mention of such a conversation ANYWHERE by Harlow or Joe in the CCTs/BBTs, this is a manufactured conversation by Harlow (or Roecker), obviously.

Elm,
it does not pain me to be on the same page as you :)

Setting up shop-
For Harlow to leave Joe and go "make porn and become porn successful" with Brent maybe-

I personally do not think that Harlow was sexually, romantically
[at least not sincerely]- interested in Brent at all.

IMO-
think of it like a non chemical attraction- again - MO

Dewayne says -
"Brent and Harlow [should] make porn together"-
Sure- absolutely- Harlow -Hot
Brent -very cute
top-
bottom-
= good sex scene-

Harlow leaving Joe for a romantic
[anything other than work situation] with Brent and a future together-
to me-
no way.
