Leaving San Diego

It was a memorable, thought-provoking, nostalgic and above all fun visit. Thanks San Diego! :-)

We had just one more stop before we got ready to head out - a little shopping trip to this store in Hillcrest:

While there, we found these red v-neck shirts that were an incredible bargain. Only $19! Just a few days earlier I had noticed one selling for over $500...making this a 96% off sale. Wow, what a deal!

So I bought two...one to keep as a treasured souvenir, and the other to auction off someday: "One American Apparel red v-neck shirt, size medium, quite possibly placed on a hanger two years ago by Brent Corrigan! Reserve bid $500."

OTOH, how often does inventory move off the shelves at AA? Perhaps I am thinking a bit wishfully here. Oh well, I'll let the marketplace sort this thorny question out...

In any case, barring any significant Harlow/Joe developments in the next two weeks (i.e., a prison break), it looks like this blog will see exactly two more posts: A "Final Thoughts" post sometime next week, then a farewell post on Arrest Day, May 15. The latter being a few appropriate closing remarks, with the comments being more or less an open thread. New comments will be turned off on June 1.

Update: Chatting with Brent, Part One. Nothing too interesting IMO until that last question, which immediately caught my attention; naturally, Part One ends on that cliffhanger...

Update 2: Chatting with Brent, Part Two. No new Kocis saga revelations, disappointingly. The whole thing was a fluff interview, which given the forum was perhaps not surprising:

Update 3: Wow, here's an update with a LOT more meat on the bone:

"I don't claim to know much about Cuadra, his involvement in Cobra Video or his past with Brent Corrigan, but I have worked with him in an escort capacity in the past: Years ago we had been hired together on several occasions and, on a very superficial level, we'd chat back and forth."
This fascinating post is over a month old; frankly I'm a little red-faced I missed it until now. It's midway down the page, read the whole thing...

Update 4: OK I lied. There will now be more than two remaining posts. The Final Thoughts are turning out to be much more thoughtful than I first thought, so, look for that to be released in three rather than one post. Look for the first one later today...

American Apparel's Hillcrest store facade consists of a shaved bush.

You have made a great travelogue. I have truly enjoyed your observations as you have traveled the path of this history in SD. The same honor I can give in admiration for all the rest of your posts about the unfortunate events, which have occurred. I have commented infrequently on your blog, and this, I regret, but perhaps you do not. I can be very trying with my thoughts and I know that I can sometimes push to far. Or at least I think this to be so. That being said, I just want to commend you for your views on these events.

Now as to the hope of profit from your recent purchase my advice is:
The Reserve should be $0.
And you must include a DVD with photos of yourself wearing nothing but the v-neck and a movie of you doing interesting things with others while naked. ;)

Great San Diego series Jim and in case you have the itch for a new blog about "gay grifters and con men" I can't believe I am just learning about the Dark Prince!

Geoff that American Apparels stores Bush is a RAT Magnet! Actually heard a commotion and watched one drop down on to the sidewalk in full daylight.

Fun watching the shriek from the lesbian walking by ;)

Ernie I have been wondering why Brents auctions are so successful when someone like Michael Lucas cant seem to get more than a couple hundred for his!

I agree, great tour guide Jim! I wish I coupld have gone with you for a lunch at least is SD, but I was up N. CA camping in the woods with a special friend. I shut off my phone and did not even look for internet access. We could have split a burger and fries with four people just as a taste testing exp. during the Hillcrest stopover.

But I have grown attached to the small circle of friends here and I do not want to completely let go.

Can you/we start a new blog just to have it, not really any reason? Perhaps a celebration of living free and not behind bars.

Chatting With Brent, Part 2: Too bad he no longer puts as much effort into his blog. He really sounds good and interesting here. His analysis of Just the Sex Part I was off the mark. JTS1 was a collection of in-the-can scenes filmed for the never-was BCI pay site. These are home movies filmed at Grant's place, which overlooks a canyon through which an expressway runs and is in the flight path of NAS Miramar. You can't hear a goddamned thing on the videos because of the expressway and jet noise. This is a major malfunction, and it is incompetent filmmaking. JTS1 didn't sell as well as Brent had hoped because it was not a professional product or a good value. If anyone would like my copy, I will send it for the price of USPS ground shipping and a box, payable thru Paypal.

From serial plagiarist Benjamin Nicholas' post:

What I did find fascinating with the Cuadra trial was the pro-Harlow, rah-rah emotional responses he was getting from anonymous bloggers even when facing insane amounts of piling evidence. See, there's a huge difference between simply milking a story for web traffic, not believing a word of your own crap and truly buying into the various conspiracy theories. It seems like he's describing the "one-stop shop for daily dude dish" that he has so heartily endorsed in the past. A plagiarist and a hypocrite.

Yes. But he's talking about Elm blog too, I think.

If I'm reading this correctly, he's putting Kent in the milking Harlow-is-innocent just for the web traffic catagory.

Elm blog, OTOH, he would cite as an example of actually believing in the crap, blinded by his looks and charm.

And frankly, if I am indeed correct in matching those examples up...I think he has a point in both analyses.

jim said...

...although come to think of it, he could be referring to Ridge/Roecker instead of/in addition to Elm as well, when he talks of those Harlowite conspiracy theorists who bought into the crap.

Whoever he's referring to, it's a valid point I think. And a relatively well informed one, since he actually spoke and dealt with Harlow as a co-worker. Makes his observations as to Harlow's character particularly interesting, because unlike Harlow's clients and fans, BN probably got to see more behind the mask.

Well, Jason Ridge isn't an "anonymous" blogger. And if BN was paying attention, he'd know that Elm no longer thinks Harlow is innocent.

No, there are only two "anonymous bloggers" that I know of who still "believe their own crap" about Harlow, and BN still endorses one of them.

jim said...

Not innocent no, Harlow on the stand dispelled that...but rather they say now "Evil Joe made Harlow do it."

Albert said...

'They' said,

"Evil Joe made Harlow do it."

That has no ring to it.

I suggest,

'Evil Joe, Not Harlow.'

It rhymes. That is the key. That was my one free marketing tip for the week.

Make it rhyme, not whine.

:)

Geoff there was only one scene in Just the Sex 1 that was recorded with the idea of web distribution. That was the Luke Hass/Brent scene which was widely thought to be the best scene in the video.

The other scenes were filmed expressly for DVD in March 2008.

There is not much you can do about the sound level on that canyon rim during a scene absent filming at 4 A.M (like the soccer boy scene with Josh Vaughn and Brent for BCO) absent looping music thru the soundtrack.

Considering porn fans have made it very clear the majority DETESTS music in porn that was not really an option.

I might add William Higgens filmed some classics at Big Sur in the early 80's and he said the surf made the soundtrack mush and yet he was loath to completely mask the "natural sound" he was known for.(in an era of overdubbed fake sound and disco music)

On the subject of Benjamin Nichols I think his observations of Harlow ring true and certainly Harlow was a "pie in the sky" "get Rich Quick" type of person.

My problem with Nichols is his self-important superior attitude he is a prostitute and while I do not hold that against him, he should not feel he is better than anyone else.

Because he is not! At the end of the day his choice of profession is identical to Harlows.

I was going to wait until the end of this blog to thank you jim but now is as good a time.
Since you started this blog, for some reason I have been very, very comfortable here.
This has been my favorite spot,
I hung out here.
Being new to blogging [the h&J time]-
this was a spot where I felt I could express whatever was on my mind -
[and you had the patience of a Saint with me :)
I want to thank you!
thank you for allowing me to express myself in the way that I have been able to here.
Although this is people communicating on the computer, I feel close to some-
you I will not forget-
I do not want to say good-bye because I hope we will run into each other elsewhere at another time-
So long my friend, and thank you again!
