Cuadra Trial "Arrives"

This today from the Times Leader:

"Cuadra trial in homicide of porn rival Kocis arrives"

Pretty basic stuff, with a stripped down timeline. Only three things mildly raise my eyebrow here:

"Recently filed court records indicate the trial before Judge Peter Paul Olszewski Jr. is scheduled to last until March 13."
This is the first I've heard of a projected end date;

"A number of witnesses from across the country received subpoenas from the district attorney’s office to testify during the trial. Among them are ... Renee Martin of Fort Worth, Texas, described by prosecutors as a business associate of Cuadra and Kerekes."
It would seem that those dire legal threats Renee made against both Melnick and the Luzerne County media to stop calling her a "business associate" of Harlow and Joe have fallen on deaf ears; and

"Four days is scheduled for jury selection."
Which means we should see opening arguments on Monday, February 23. The day before Mardi Gras, woo hoo!

Update: On trial opening day, Elm, in his words, tidies up some bovine excrement...

Jim, this may simply be a different way of interpreting the concept of 'speedy trial.' In this concept, you set a start date (or more) and an end date (but only one.) That ensures the trial is over quick, 'speedy' if you will.

:)

"During a pre-trial hearing in July, Crake said the “ultimate motive” to Kocis’ homicide was Cuadra and Kerekes wanted to produce movies with Lockhart, but the civil settlement stood in their way."

Where did Cuadra and Kerekes get this idea from?

Certainly not from Kocis.

We know Cuadra and Kerekes never heard of Cobra/Kocis till they got involved with Lockhart and Roy.

"Where did Cuadra and Kerekes get this idea from?"

The Vegas lamb dinner. We know this, based on what was said on the CCTs and BBTs. This is not a mystery.

As the CCTs indicate, Harlow and Joe wanted to somehow avoid paying Bryan the 20% due him under the settlement. A fact 100% verified by Justin Hensley, who heard it straight from Harlow and Joe months earlier, and 2000 miles away:

"Cuadra and Kerekes both stated that Corrigan was somehow contractually obligated to Cobra Video/Bryan Kocis, to which Cuadra and Kerekes stated that they were attempting to make a deal with Corrigan without it costing any money to Kocis."

And there's your motive. It was all over Bryan's 20%.

"We know Cuadra and Kerekes never heard of Cobra/Kocis till they got involved with Lockhart and Roy."

We most certainly do NOT know this; in fact, I would be flat-footed astonished if this had really been the case.

Harlow and Joe were in the porn industry. To think that they never heard of Bryan or Cobra Video back when they first founded their own twink porn operation strains credulity to the outer limits of absurdity.

It will be revealed at trial by Harlow when he first heard of Kocis.

I suspect he will say he first heard of Kocis from Roy and Lockhart.

Roy said:

"But I’ll be damned, if that son of a bitch, now that he’s dead and we have been taking the heat for it and been cause great damage; I’ll be damned if I’ll continue honor a document and a man who deserves no honor!"

He was EXTREMELY unhappy with the settlement.

Ha, well, I'd say the odds of Harlow taking the stand (before the penalty phase) are at best exceedingly remote, and even if he does...very little of what he would say can be considered factual.

"He was EXTREMELY unhappy with the settlement."

Yes, in hindsight. Which is hardly surprising, in that it turns out that much of it was treacherously negociated by Lee Bergeron, a double agent Bryan had inserted into their ranks.

Jim, it would stress credibility to have known of Brent Corrigan 2.5years ago or more without having heard of Cobra. Where would they have seen him other than his blog. Well, maybe if they just looked at the pretty pictures. That would make sense.

Never mind.

This is the first I've heard of a projected end date

PC's post of January 31 regarding the new witness list included the following statement:

"[Witness Name] is a material witnesses for the Commonwealth and the attendance at the aforesaid trial is necessary from February 17, 2009 through March 20, 2009."

So at that time the projected end date was March 20. It has not apparently been moved up a week.

jim said...

Yeah, Harlow would have to have been least informed twink porn producer on the planet to have not heard of Brent, Bryan or Cobra before he met them.

When Harlow posted words to that effect back on his blog before his arrest, that was one of the things that initially set off my bullshit alarm, in fact.

I mean, that literally ranks up there with the senator at the dude ranch story, and such.

Good catch, Prof!

Yeah, there's a couple of errors in Ed's story.

This picture of Harlow in suit with glasses is a sharper clearer copy of the photo.

We needed a better scan higher rez of it to really see it.

Poor Harlow, it's like the weight of the world is on his shoulders. It must be stressful. I'd think his slight weight gain is the least of his concerns.

jim said...

Speaking of the photo, I speculated on it a while back over on PC's blog: Does it look like Harlow might be wearing a bullet proof vest underneath that jacket?

BB said...

Harlow first heard of Sean from Grant Roy. Harlow first heard of Bryan from Grant Roy. Spin it any way you like. It is the truth.

Emails back it up. Oops, am not meant to mention those.

I said 2 much already :) You'll get confirmation soon enough.

----

I doubt it. There are not enough people who are mad at him for his alleged involvement in the murder, and Harlow may not know where any bodies are buried.

The jacket and glasses are likely the result of a cash infusion or two.

I look forward to seeing some other new suits, like a sleeker black one. Love the tie he is wearing. I think he looks fantastic, but would do well to drop the glasses.

By the time this is over, he will look every day the age of 30 with the face and body weight to show for it. Which is fine, because if he somehow gets off, then there is still a market for a hot 30 y/o with thick wavy hair and a dark scary dangerous look about the eyes.

Harlow will never again have to give the look of a mean nasty little prick in photos, he will have earned that distinction as being the real deal. Future tricks that like a bit of fear and danger will know he delivers.

jim said...

Harlow is a con artist, and always has been. Doesn't matter what he said or even wrote, at this point. So, even if we saw the "proof" we're not supposed to know about, it would be proof of nothing.

You can spin it anyway you like, but your wish will not come true. Time to wake up and smell that coffee.

I said, regarding to the projected end date of the trial stipulated in the subpoenas, "It has not apparently been moved up a week."

This was a type. I meant to say "now" not "not," assuming that the Times Leader reporter was correct in his statement that the projected end was a week earlier than that mentioned in PC's post regarding the subpoenas.

I was about to post a correction until I noted that PC had noted another date error in the Times Leader story, namely that of Joe Kerekes' plea.

Suffice it to say, there is a projected end date for the trial, and that is the date no later than that whikch the two sides want their witnesses to be present.

See if I were walking that hall and asking the questions, I would want to know what brand of hair gel he prefers both pre and post arrest? Who cut his hair most recently, and then tell him the purple tie looks totally fabulous. And what was his fitness diet before Jan. of 2007? Does he still have any motivation to work out?

I never had interest in twinkish looks, so the new image is actually much better in a way imo.

Jim, Quicky, et allus--

Why would our beloved BB want to give up?

He ignores what is on the record so far. The account of the Le Cirque dinner; the CCT's; and the BBT's. None of those accounts back what BB alludes to.

Next, and emphatic yes to Harlow's being a long practiced grifter.

Incidentally, the email crap so much is made over by BB traces back to that fountain of veracity, Renee Martin, the arrested and bail bonded, but not imposed, "stellar" State's witness who promised a day in court against Melnick. I do remember her statement at PC's blog regarding her status. Anyhow, this is what happens when BB hitches his star to Renee Martin's wagnon.

Put a black suit and a Latin collar on Harlow in that frog march pic, and he could be a junior bureaucrat at the Vatican.

I believe I do. :)

Do you two need to be left alone?

I wasn't watching or anything. :)

I mean't no harm. It's just that I happened to overhear bits of your conversation there and .. well,. the parts I caught sounded like like you two guys were like, kinda close.
I meant nothing by that. Just observing here, don't you know!

Judge Peter Olszewski denied the Defense motion to suppress the evidence seized from the BMW, the vehicle the Virginia Beach PD stopped Harlow Cuadra and Jospeh Kerekes in at the time of their arrest on the Pennsylvania State murder warrant.

Someone should station himself at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport with video and still cameras. We need imagery of Renee flying in on a broom.

jim said...

Oh, with her dogged insistance on Luzerne County paying all her travel expenses, I imagine she'll be able to take a commericial flight, just like everyone else.

Anonymous said...

uh now days the Broom is faster than flying Commercial!

quickysrt said...

I'd love to fly in and be the official unofficial blog photographer getting pictures of each and every key player in this case. Video too of arrivals and goings on at court house steps.

If anyone wants to pay my airfare, I'll pay for a cheap fleabag motel for three nights. I have the time available and can swing it!

Trust me, I'll show up!

It may not be as glamourous, but the two assignments have one thing in common: someone who promised to be there will not show up, and NOBODY will miss him or mention his name.

thanks, but I checked into it and they need to be transfered only into another members account. Would need to join and then wait for approval, up to seven days.

Just out of curriousity I looked at prices of round trip "winter camping" trips to PA out of my my neck of the woods. Seems prices run around $290-$340 at the very lowest. Nothing lower even with 14 day advance booking.

Of course I would need all my days free to be week days and not weekends. And of course prices do sometimes drop without any notice, forcing one to make that quicky booking.

Followers of this case, or blog? I'm not sure I got that? Of course I have a PP account.

I wonder if all expenses (plus) could be recouped by selling copyrights of the photos and video? PC would need a nice batch of them to secure his book deal, which would be the icing on the cake for him.

I have a gig penciled in on the 6th of next month, but other than that, when there is a will....

If you don't mind being near a public High School, there is a good economy hotel that is also in walking distance of the courthouse.

quickysrt said...

Thanks Albert, I need to know things like that. And V.J. too, there must be a cheaper deal on round trip, those Wilkes Barre, PA flights are higher than going to NYC, Orlano/Disney, or anywhere else in the country. Isn't that odd. I guess it's because nobody else in their right mind would go there in the Feb./Mar. time of year. We need a red-eye for $99.00 each way. I'll check again.

But the reason I thought of going is because nobody is getting good pictures of the whole cast. And these kinds of stories are about a lot of people, and not just one guy, a knife and a bic lighter.
